A patient being considered for Recuperative Care must meet the following criteria:
- Homeless, in the process of being homeless, or currently living in a setting that is not conducive to recovery or post-hospitalization care
- Able to complete activities of daily living (ADLs) independently. Wheelchairs and other durable medical equipment may be accepted under the following conditions:
– Able to use DMEs safely and understands the proper use and handling
– Able to use DMEs without assistance from a caregiver
– Able to walk for at least 50 feet before a hospital or facility discharge, with or without DMEs
- Able to take the medication with staff oversight
- Continent of both bowels and bladder. If diapers or special briefs are used, the patient must be able to maintain their hygiene independently.
- Medically and psychiatrically stable upon discharge
- Alert, oriented, and aware of personal details
- Not a danger to other people or self
- If specialized care or equipment is required, please disclose and discuss with our recuperative care staff.
Patients who meet these guidelines may NOT receive recuperative care:
- Unable to complete ADLs, take medication on their own, or maintain personal care routines
- Incontinent of bladder and/or bowel
- Cognitively impaired
- Has a highly contagious illness
- Quadriplegic
- Has Stage 3 or higher decubitus ulcers
- Has a cardiac ejection fraction percentage of

30 - Has active TB/C-DIFF/MRSA of sputum (possibility of wound)
- Active substance abuse and unwilling to abstain during recuperative care
- Medically and psychiatrically unstable
- Combative, disruptive, or aggressive behavior that endangers staff or other people
- Actively detoxing and not yet close to stabilizing
